Today is the Summer Solstice
The Vernal Equinox
The longest day of the year.
This photo was taken at 11:30. We had a rather gloomy day today with many clouds and not much sun, but you can see from the photo how light it still is. Farther North, in Orkney (on the same latitude as Nome, Alaska) and the Shetland Isles, for example, the sun barely sets. I have heard that in some of these places the locals, adults and children alike, take picnic hampers and crawl out on their roofs to watch the sun touch the horizon and then begin rising again.
Don just crawled into bed but I find it difficult to settle down on nights like these. Could it be the ancient Druid in my bones? My Pagan soul?
Can you see the Steed of the Summer Sky galloping toward the West?
