A Quiet Day

It has been a quiet day. Don and Gordon played golf this morning; I stayed home doing laundry and quilting my "15 Short Stories by One Author" quilt so we can put it up in the sitting room. It's been a cloudy, grey day with the occasional very light shower. After lunch we had a phone conference with our financial advisor who says we are doing a good job managing our expenses and that our overall plan is working even better than we had thought it would. This afternoon we both sat down with a single malt (Balvenie for those who follow such things)--Don to watch the Murray vs Benneteau match from Wimbledon and I to page through my brand new Kafe Fassett quilting book (his earliest one--Thank you Molly and Mark!).

Last night we officially "launched" our new home by inviting the Raes and the Hamiltons over for dessert (fresh peach pie) and coffee. It felt so good to show the place off and to get lots of oohs and aaahs. Trish brought some French cherry cakes and roses from her garden. Helen brought a potholder and a calendar wrapped nicely and tied with a bow that just matched Trish's roses. The photo shows the roses and the bow.

I almost had a disaster today when I was cutting the backing fabric for the quilt I was going to start working on. I inadvertently cut off about 3 inches right down the whole of the right side of the quilt. Yikes! I think I've managed to salvage it by using quilt basting spray to hold the two pieces in place and then by quilting them down so that they can't move apart from one another. There is still an obvious line where the cut is that I shall have to disguise somehow but I'll figure it out. My mind is at work on the problem. The quilt is now about half quilted so I should be able to finish the rest of the quilting tomorrow while Don is away playing with the St Fillans Seniors.
