Don has now finished two rounds of chemo and continues to do so well that it's amazing. Both of us have begun losing hair but not in great handfuls. Soon, however, we shall have to do something. On Saturday my hairdresser will shave my head so that my wig will fit better. Then she'll trim the wig to suit my face (which is enormous because of the steroids and what they cause me to eat).
Don's on the golf course this morning. He played 18 holes yesterday afternoon and, in general, has been out there every chance he's had. With this weather, why miss an opportunity?
I met with my oncologist last Tuesday morning and learned that I will be put on several courses of chemo. Not sure when I'll start but probably soon. My doctor thinks I shall need from 6 to 8 courses, depending on how well I can tolerate the cocktail of drugs. You can learn more from the CancerBackup link. They have not be able to determine the primary tumor but the combination of drugs they have chosen will take care of the remaining tumors whether they are lung cancers or melanomas.
Our youngest daughter, Molly, arrived on April 26th to help us out for a couple of weeks. What a Godsend she was! She was great company, helped us enormously, and she brought a quilt kit that I had made for her years ago. She and I worked in the studio on several days and she managed to finish the quilt. She left yesterday and is no doubt trying to catch up on her sleep and laundry.
Fortunately, our weather turned brilliant: lots of sun and temps in the 70s, so we were able to take Molly out for some sight-seeing drives, which she enjoyed. (Above photos from that.)
We continue to be sent cards, have food deliveries (a tub of pate arrived on Tuesday from Juliet Sutcliffe and today she dropped by with a bowl of her wonderful grapefruit mousse) and drop-in visits from friends. The Southorns, knowing I've been having a hard time finding Garibaldi cookies, managed to find some in Dundee and dropped them off yesterday. We had a lovely visit with them.
This afternoon WE will be visitors. Our friend Helen Rae has had a hip replacement op and is in PRI. Don and I will go to see her this afternoon for a wee while. Tomorrow night we'll have Gordon and their daughter Alison over for a meal.
I am continuing to feel pretty good although I must admit that the cumulative effects of the radiation are beginning to show. I am tireder and have less stamina and strength than I did. These days I need more time in my easy chair (ostensibly reading a book but actually napping).
Molly spoiled us so badly that I can barely remember how to load our dishwasher. I have begun doing more cooking, which I enjoy.
