Finally I was able to get out into the garden to weed the area in front of the front bed. I used a rolling sit-upon cart which allowed me to get around the whole distance without having to worry about getting up and down. I dragged a big plastic bucket behind me to throw the weeds into. It felt so good to accomplish that job at last.
Above are photos of some of the things in our garden. Two years ago my next door neighbour gave me a "volunteer" Laburnam tree. In the States I believe they are known as the Golden Rain Tree. They are so lovely when full grown and in full bloom, with cascades of golden dripping blossom. Our wee tree only has a few cascades but they are here duly documented.
The view of the front bed shows a Rhododendron we dug up from a ccongested bed and transplanted to an open area where it is thriving. It is an unusual specimen for when it goes into bud, you'd swear it would produce fuschia blossoms. Instead, it produces blossoms which are almost pale peach. In the front is a purple Cranesbill. Also in this bed are several Heuchera, another (hot pink) Cranesbill, another Rhodie, and several other plants. Some are annuals but most are perennials. (Or as they say over here, I have a herbaceous border.)
The clematis climbing the garden arch is blooming beautifully just now. Unfortunately, under overcast skies, the pale purple colour doesn't show up very well. The second clematis photo is of the pale pink Montana which grows in great profusion over our front fence. It has hardly begun to bloom but will be fully in bloom and quite spectacular in another week or so.
Don played golf this morning and quite enjoyed himself. He's just finished cutting the grass.
Tonight we're being taken to the Tullybannocher Restaurant for a Jazz Night. Haig and Trish Hamilton are treating us for Don's birthday.
Jan Southorn dropped by just before noon with a card wishing me well on Monday and two plates of food: an assortment of veggies (peapods, baby sweetcorn, pickled beets, carrots, and 2 hard-boiled eggs) and a dish of French custard. As luck would have it, I had just finished boiling 2 eggs so that we could have egg salad sandwiches for lunch. Our lunch was a bit more extensive than had been planned.
