Beautiful Bright Afternoon

I say "afternoon" but it was probably closer to 7 pm when I took this photo of our Broom bush and my neighbour's Laburnum tree. You can see our swan sculpture in the foreground, although it is in shade, so you can't see it well.

This morning I spent in the studio. I started out making this little spiral quilt. It's quite small, perhaps 5" x 5". I'm not sure what I'll do with it but as I was cleaning the top of my cutting table, these scraps were sitting around. I just began placing them this way and that and--voila!--I had a little design.

Here is the main project I have embarked on: roosters and hens from a commercial pattern. I had fun putting this rooster together. I think he looks French, don't you? Tomorrow I'll do a hen.
You may be surprised to know that my hair is growing. Or perhaps not. It feels so strange to run my hands over the stubble on my head. My hairdresser told me if this happens I can just phone her and she'll get me a set of clippers from her wholesaler.

Fortunately, Don says he's getting used to my "bald" look. I'm happy about that because I'm much more comfortable sitting around the house bare-headed.

Today has been a pretty good day. One of the best since the chemo. I have learned that I need to be drinking lots and lots of fluids so my water bottle has hardly been out of my hand. Apparently that will help prevent the fainting spells. Still, I am so concerned that I'll have another one that I am getting up and down so slowly you wouldn't believe it. Knock wood, I've been fine so far...just slow.

A parcel came from my best and dearest friend Karen Armel this morning: 3 CDs--two Vaughan-Williams and one Elgar. That played in my studio while I worked this morning.

Yesterday, however, the book from the Prayer Service held at our former church in Bethesda arrived. Don and I sat down with it for about an hour last night and were simply overwhelmed by the outpouring of loving care and concern. There were beautiful notes, cards (with notes), descriptions of who was there and what happened when. We will spend many hours looking through this compendium of joy and sharing. Thank you to all who participated and contributed. Thanks, most especially, to Christina Schoux, Pete Salinger, and Ruth Salinger as well as Megan Foley, the church intern, for all they did to make the event happen.
