Fifteen Short Stories by One Author

I agree that this is a long title for a quilt, but it is what came to me and usually that is the name I go with. Given that there are 15 circles and each one tells its own story and there are 15 excerpts from short stories (stories that remain to be written, however), and all created by me, well it just seemed right to call it that.

This is the quilt that had the wee problem: I accidentally sliced its right side edge clean off, but managed to stick it back on. To sew the two pieces together without making a seam (as that would lose half an inch from the design), I couched a thin gold braid vertically down the right side from outer edge to outer edge. Then in a vain attempt to make the gold braid look like an intended surface design element, I added another piece of the braid across the top of the quilt from edge to edge. This was not the perfect solution, but despite excellent suggestions and ideas from some expert quilt artists, I have decided to leave the quilt as it is for now. Today the quilt will be hung in our dining area across from my place at the table. I will get many opportunities to scrutinize, analyze, and agonize about what I might do to make it better (as if I haven't had a month of that already). I might decide that it's just fine the way it is. Don says he's gotten used to it as it is.

We're having a heat wave! Temperatures are going up into the mid-80s this week and the humidity is rising. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week are to be rainy with some thundery showers. This is not a complaint, however.

Graham Cramb is back this morning, putting a second coat of paint on the garage. He also will be touching up a couple of things in the house as well as re-staining the broom closet door with a different stain to match the existing kitchen cupboards better than the first stain they applied.

Sometime today the Sky man is due back. "Skyman" sounds like someone who should fly up to the front door wearing a blue uniform and a cape, doesn't it? He was wearing a blue uniform when he came last week, but come to think of it, I didn't actually see him come and go. There definitely was no cape (unless he slipped it into his toolbox). At any rate, we hope to have our Sky hookup completed by the end of the day.

Don's having a game of golf with Gordon. He thoroughly enjoyed watching the Scottish Open tournament on the telly on Saturday and Sunday. I must confess I watched along with him as I was doing quite a bit of hand-sewing, finishing up the quilt. I never thought I'd get into watching golf on the telly, but I do rather enjoy it (not that I always understand it).

I'm going to the studio right now to finish another project I started at the retreat in May. I seem to be in finishing mode just now so I'll ride that wave as long as I can. As they say in the ad world: Watch this space.
