And now for something completely different...

Yesterday afternoon I began this little piece (it's 12" wide by 17.5" long). I just finished it and must say, it was a joy to create. When I started out, all I wanted to do was create a small picture quilt of a flower in a flower pot. The piece I decided on as a background dictated that the flower pot be a bit more ornate, not just your run-of-the-mill terra cotta pot. I actually thought I was going to create red-orange geraniums but you see what happened--I ended up with Cyclamen. Of course, the leaves aren't Cyclamen leaves but in my greenhouse, they are just fine.

Last night we went to the Deil's Cauldron for their second annual Bastille Day Petanque Cookout. There were about 70 folks there who enjoyed fresh steamed mussels, prawns en brochette, sirloin steaks (right off the grill), ratatouille, coc au vin, parsleyed new potatoes, and salads of all sorts. For pudding there was a do-it-yourself meringue sundae bar with plump, juicy, sweet local raspberries and strawberries to go with the meringues. Cream or vanilla and strawberry ice cream was the crowning glory. John Robertson brought his squeezebox again this year and played mostly Scottish tunes. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting with old and new friends and meeting some folks we didn't know. We ate outside and played Petanque and sat and schmoozed over ale and wine until the sun started to go down (9:30 or so) and the midges started coming out. That's when we moved inside to the restaurant for more chat. It was great fun, especially with Chef Brian strolling around in his black checkered trousers, white tunic, and his comical black beret inspired by David Nicolson, our Petanque Capitain, who was appropriately attired in a striped knit shirt over khaki trousers, red and white bandanna around his neck, and sporting the same comical style beret.

Yesterday morning Graham Cramb came to paint our garage. It now looks ever so much better but the paint we selected from the small paint-chip sample book is no darker than the colour of our house, just grayer. It was to be the same colour only a couple of shades darker. I'm not sure what we'll do about it, if anything for the moment, because the bottom line is it looks really good and at least it doesn't clash. Perhaps we'll just live with it a while and then decide.

Yesterday and today Don carted garden debris to the public skip in Crieff. While he played golf this morning, I got another load ready to go and finished pruning a holly in the front garden. There is still much to be done but this turned out to be a fairly warm day for this part of the world. The high got to 75 and we have had to turn the fan on in the sitting room. Don's been watching the Scottish Open Golf Championship from Loch Lomond. What stunning views and what a lovely weekend for it!
