Time for Quilting

Today is the day I return to work on the Provence quilt. I've decided that I'll use the quilt-as-you-go method on this one because I have the time and I want the control as well as the tactile pleasure of doing the quilting myself. I'll join each two diagonal rows and quilt these as units. Coincidentally, this is only the second bed quilt I've made for us since the very first quilt I made back in 1990 and it too was a quilt-as-you-go. The one upside to the builder's tardiness is having this extra time to use my studio.

It isn't as cold today as it has been, although the temperature is right around freezing. It's another dull day like yesterday, where we only see the sun briefly at sunrise and sunset. Working on this bright quilt for our summer coverlet is just the way to dispel the gloom and perhaps fool myself into feeling warmer.

I shall put on my favorite CDs, including the two new Barbara Dickson's which came in this morning's post. (One terrific boon we all now can get from the Internet is being able to order used books and CDs and sometimes get them in 2 days' time!)

Don is out playing golf with the St Fillans Golf Club senior men's group and will likely come home cold but full of enthusiasm for the game and the men he associated with all morning. There's a big leftover container of pasta i fagioli soup for lunch, leftover from when I made it a few days ago.

Tonight is the annual award dinner at the Comrie Golf Club which we'll attend. We were at this event two years ago when we hardly knew anyone and Don hadn't actually played very much, still being a beginner and feeling quite unsure of his game (or, rather, feeling certain his game was "rubbish"). Tonight's even will be quite different as there will be many familiar faces to us now and, if nothing else, Donald should get the "Most Improved Golfer award." Such an award doesn't actually exist but if it did, we could put the cup next to the wee tarnished brass one he got when he was 7 which says "Most Improved Camper."
