By the time we returned from Glasgow yesterday in the late afternoon, the joiners had left but the roof trusses were up for the kitchen connecting with those for the utility room, which will run off the kitchen. They had even put a membrane of sort over the trusses so that now, as you can see from the photo, we are getting there. This is taken from the existing kitchen door looking into the new utility room.
The art show we went to in Glasgow was amazing. It was all digital textile art, printed in large ink-jet printers (very large ones) with a wide range of high quality coloured inks. The images are very sharp and many of the artists make quite bright and lively designs. The designs are digitally created by the artists, often from a variety of components from original digital designs, to photos, to sketches and inkwork, to, well...you name it. It looked to us like there were no limits to what could be done. Some of the art was presented as videos of installations, others were installations themselves featuring videos. There were wall hangings of all sizes and shapes, some were even a bit quilt-like as they had multi layers and also featured some hand-stitching and other embellishments.
One of the most amazing artists was J. R. Campbell, an American who is now heading up the Glasgow School of Art's Centre for Advanced Textiles. He happened to be at the gallery when we were, taking photos of his work before the show was taken down (today). He has been designing textiles for some time now and often creates garments that are works of art in all respects, from their textile design to the way they look when worn various ways. To see what we mean, go to his Website http://homepage.mac.com/jrcamp/portfolio/JRPortfolio.html and click on "artwork." This is a whole world that we never knew anything about, where amazing work is being done. No, I'm not about to go that way...at least I can't see that in my future. But it is wonderful to see and learn more about.

Thank you so much for the link. I am very interested indeed to see JR Campbell's work, and especially enjoyed the earlier pieces on his website.
I have found the computer to be an exhilarating tool in making even small domestically produced work.
I'm glad you enjoyed seeing Campbell's work. You also might enjoy exploring a Web site he recommended to me: http://www.fiberscene.com/
