One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

This is one of the sketches I made last night at my first art lesson. Well, the first since I took art lessons at the Jacksonville Children's Museum when I was 10 years old. I think this class will be a lot of fun and very helpful to me in all sorts of ways, from looking at things differently to learning to carry a sketchbook with me and training myself to sketch quickly. The sketch above was done as a "pre-instruction drawing" so that at the end of the 6-week course, I will be able to guage just how much the course has changed my sketching technique.

Yesterday afternoon, the fascia materials were delivered while Barclay and Crawford were here, so when they finished what they were doing, they moved on to putting up the fascia. Unfortunately, the insulation material that the delivery driver swears he delivered here and got someone to sign for yesterday, is still missing. Bill is getting that sorted for us.

Fortunately, the 5-day weather forecast changed yet again. The temperatures are back in the 40s rather than the 30s, and the sleet predicted for tomorrow is now away again and light showers are expected instead. At the rate things are going, no one will be here working anyway, unless the insulation gets found and delivered.

I asked Barclay yesterday afternoon how soon he thought I'd have to pack up the studio. He said not for at least another couple of weeks, so I have been in there dreaming up another art quilt. As long as I have the inspiration, I will keep at it.

Don is at Jean Kidd's this afternoon, rehearsing his song for the St Fillans Music Circle. He will be presenting the music programme on March 14th, which will feature recordings of different treatments of classical pieces, but he will also perform a song to a new set of lyrics he has written about being a drummer. Meanwhile, next Wednesday, he is to present a 20-minute talk at Probus about his career in higher education and how higher ed in the US differs from that in the UK. I won't be able to attend the Probus meeting but I will definitely attend his music circle programme. It will be nice to see him "on stage" again.
