Open Wide and Say "Ahhhh"

The washer has been ailing a bit lately. First it needed me to give it a hand going from one cycle to another every so often. Then it began to need that help more often and, latterly, in between every cycle. But today, my assistance was only marginally effective because the spin had just gone out of the poor old thing. I ended up having to wring all the whites out by hand this afternoon.

Well the washer was who knows how old when we inherited it almost 3 years ago. Thus this afternoon found us back in Crieff running more errands. We took a load of garden waste and recyclables to the public skip and then dropped some Strathearn Music Society materials off at another committee member's house.

The main event, of course, was buying a new washing machine. We got another front-loading spin-dryer. This one will spin at 1400 rpm whereas the current one only spun at 1000 (when it bothered to spin at all, of course--which, in all fairness, it did until today). The saleswoman assured us this new washer would have the clothes coming out of the washer practically dry which means they won't need to be in the dryer so long. As the dryer uses more energy, that's good news. The bad news is that all washers now use only cold water input so all new washers, regardless of make, now take 2 hours to do a normal load. And you thought an hour-and-a-half per load was a long time! Anyway, they'll deliver the new washer on Tuesday, hook it up, and cart the old one away. I think we can stay out of the mud until then.

After that we went back to Valentines store where Don bought me a new all-weather hat. It's a real Mary Poppins 1920s sort of style and I love it. From there we went back to The Artery and collected my quilt, Flambeaux. Now we're getting ready for tonight's Friends of Cognac Christmas party. More tomorrow.
