Hi Lynn I am a friend of M Barnetts and have a question for you. did you just move here from the USA to retire.. and do you have scottish heritage... ? inquiring minds want to know . I live here in the uk and will have residency soon but my sister loves scotland and would love to move there wondered if you need some type of heritage thing or visa or such. http://smarcoux.blogspot.com thanking you in advance Sandy
We retired to Scotland in September 2003. There is surely Scottish heritage on my side (Don is 100% Russian heritage), but I haven't traced anybody back so there are no "live" threads in that regards.
We have a visa, which one must apply for while still in the States. I'm not sure what status your sister could apply under (we qualified as Retired Persons of Independent Means which, believe me, sounds more impressive than it is). She should contact the British consul's office in New York City (I think there's an 800- number) to see what she can find out or go to their Website. If she's still working it won't be easy unless she can provide a necessary skill over here that can't be found in the native population.
In September 2003, my husband, Donald, and I moved from Bethesda, Maryland, to the Highland village of Comrie in Perthshire. It was the fulfillment of a dream that we have nurtured since our first trip to Scotland in 1986. Beginning with October 1, 2003, each month I have written the Highland Line to family, friends, former colleagues, and acquaintances who were interested in following our adventure.
Donald is a consultant/teacher in distance education and an avid golfer, although he hadn't played until he began taking lessons in 2003.
I am a quilter, specializing in smaller art quilts rather than traditional bed-sized quilts, although I sometimes make one of those as well.
We have four daughters back in the States and 6 grandchildren. We make two trips to the States each year to visit with them and as many friends and relatives as we can manage to squeeze in.
Welcome to our dream come true.
