Today we celebrate our 28th wedding anni-versary. I must admit, though, that this is a staged photo in that we don't really play our musical instruments at the same time. For one thing, we play totally different types of music; and for the other, even if I did play Don's type of music, I couldn't play it fast enough for him to drum to. But we certainly do make beautiful music together in all other ways.
Have you heard the joke about the man who forgot his anniversary? Of course you have. How about the one about the woman who forgot her anniversary? That's a bit rarer. How about the couple who forgot? Until Juliet and David dropped off an early anniversary card yesterday afternoon, both Don and I had totally forgotten that today was our anniversary. We were so caught up in all the events surrounding Christmas and Hogmanay as well as planning a chili feast for next week that the significance of the 28th just slipped by us. Thanks to the Sutcliffes we are back on track. The saving grace, I suppose, is that at least we both forgot on the same year. The real downside is that living in a small rural village, there are only 2 choices for taking ourselves out to dinner. Those two places--The Deil's Cauldron Restaurant and The Royal Hotel--are small enough that, at this time of year, advance booking is required. When we realized yesterday afternoon that today was the day, we phoned to try to book, but had no luck. So we're staying home for superior steaks, a lovely red wine, followed by something seriously chocolate. Music will be provided by Liz Story playing romantic standards on her piano via CD from Wendy. It is one of our holiday/anniversary gifts from her which arrived today. Perfect timing.
Our weather has warmed up considerably. It's in the low 50s today. Don has been back into golf and that is good--for both of us! It isn't that I don't like having him around, it's just that he is so used to being on the golf course at least 6 days a week that when he goes for more than 2 days without playing, he gets antsy around the house. More than 3 days and look out!
I was beginning to get cabin fever myself from not getting out now that all the activities that usually take me out of the house during the day are suspended. To remedy that, after lunch yesterday, Don and I drove to Dunblane so that he could borrow some CDs from a friend (Don's putting together another music programme for the St. Fillans Music next month) and so I could have a bit of a wander through Dunblane's charity shops just for fun. We got the CDs but sadly the charity shops were closed for the holidays. At least we fit in a shop at the Dunblane Tescos before coming home. Whoopee!
I'm happy to say I've gotten back into my studio today too. What I'm cooking up is a surprise, though.
