A Choral Triumph and another Christmas Luncheon

Last night's perfor-mance of Handel's Messiah by the Crieff Choral Group was a triumph! Everyone we've seen or spoken with who heard it has raved about it. We had a long but very good rehearsal yesterday afternoon and then got home with just enough time to have something to eat and change our clothes to get back for the concert. The hall wasn't packed but it was close to being full. Over 300 tickets were sold--a record number. We knew going into the concert that it was going to be a big smash. The orchestra was tight and spot-on and all 4 soloists were extremely capable. The baritone and the soprano were particularly outstanding. Best of all, the chorus did itself proud. It was a thrilling piece to sing and we were relieved and happy that everything went as well as we had thought it would. Tonight we go back to our rehearsal room to turn in our scores and pick up the music for our spring concert. We'll sing a few carols and have a glass of cheer and a nibble and then go home early.

As usual Don rode to the concert with David and Juliet Sutcliffe who drove us both home. They came in for a glass of cava and some nibbles around the fire. We chatted until almost midnight. I found it hard to settle down because of the excitement of the performance and the music still going round in my head, but managed to get a really good night's sleep.

This afternoon was the So and Sews' annual Christmas luncheon at the Achray House Hotel. As you can see from the photos, we had a wonderful time together, ending with popping our crackers, donning the paper crowns that fell out of the crackers along with trinkets and silly riddles. [Question: How do you communicate with a fish? Answer: Drop it a line.] Except for the fact that one of our number was in hospital for a serious op while we were out living it up, we were all in attendance and had a lovely time. We took up a collection to send her flowers when she comes home from hospital later in the week or early next week. As usual, the food was delicious and there was enough wine to put the roses in our cheeks.
