Farewell to Family, Part I

Our first set of visitors de-parted yester-day. Well, they de-parted from Scot-land. We took Wendy and Jami to Edinburgh Airport in time for their 1:10 flight to Heathrow where they'd connect with their United flight to Dulles in the afternoon. Unfortunately, very severe rain storms plagueing various parts of England delayed the British Midlands flight from Edinburgh for 2 hours, just long enough for them to miss their connection. BMI put them up in an airport motel for the night and gave them meal vouchers. United kindly made room for them on a noon flight today so they should arrive back in the US at 3:15 this afternoon their time.

The photos above are of our final touring day on Sunday. It was raining or drizzling but we went anyway. First stop was Killin to see the Falls of Dochart (see photo of Jami, Wendy, and Don with umbrellas). Then we drove through the dramatic mountain passes of Glen Coe. We stopped for lunch at the craft shop we've stopped in each time we've made this journey going back to our first trip in 1986. We had a delicious lunch, Wendy had a chance to do the gift shopping she's wanted to do all week and Don had a break from the driving. The second photo is of Wendy and Jami in front of a Glen Coe waterfall on the way home and one of the rare unposed photos of Jami.

Don played golf with Gordon after lunch yesterday and I got the laundry done. We finished up leftovers for dinner and then went up to the Comrie Golf Course. It was such a lovely evening, quite cool but clear, that Don played a few holes and I walked along with him. He let me take a few swings at the ball and the only time I managed to connect, I knocked the ball into the rough where it was lost! Perhaps if I could try using left-handed clubs, I would have more success but until then, I think I'll stick to walking on the golf course. These last two photos show you how beautiful it was up there last night and how light it was at 9 pm.
