We had a pretty nice day again yester-day. After a yummy brunch of Don's baked French toast, we headed off to Blairdrummond Safari Park which is about a 45-minute drive from here. They had a some petting animals, which is what Jami has been wanting, and a drive-through safari along with many other attractions of interest to children of all ages. We arrived too late for the sea lion show but saw many of the other animals in their enclosures--marmosets, meerkats, penguins, bears, and so on. In the safari area there were giraffes, rhinos, elephants, lions, gazelles, zebras, buffalo, deer, emus, ostriches and I'm certain other animals I've forgotten to mention. The petting animals included some of the fattest pigs we've ever seen and very docile and soft llamas. We all had a great time, especially Jami.
On the way to and from the park, we went through the village of Doune and so on the way home, we stopped at Doune Castle. We all had a great time climbing the spiral staircases to see chambers, nooks, and eventually, to come out on the parapet where we had terrific views over the countryside. The view included a thunderstorm which was headed in our direction (see second photo above). We left for home when we began hearing the thunder but didn't make it very far before the heavens opened up.
Today it's rainy--hard at times--but not too cool. We're sticking close to home until about 5 this evening when we leave for dinner out and the theatre in Pitlochry.
