The past couple of days have been beautiful but strange. The temperature has been moderately cool (mid- to high-40s) and there have been the odd rain showers. Otherwhise, it has been sunny and with occasional dark clouds passing through. Yesterday we had so many rainbows, I lost count. The photo above was the last of the day and it was made extra special by that golden, low-slanting late afternoon light. (This photo was taken at about 5:30 pm.) At one point in the middle of the day, there was almost a complete rainbow over all of Comrie but it was a very low arch. I had never seen one so low.
The other photo is of some of our white crocuses. We have white ones and purple ones blooming alongside the snowdrops and a few aconites which are almost finished. A handful of daffodils have opened but most are just budding out. Trees and shrubs are all budded up and will be blooming and then leafing out before we know it. On the farms all around Comrie baby lambs are starting to appear. They are so cunning! The birds are starting to sing earlier and earlier now that daylight comes earlier. Sunrise is at 6:35 and sunset is at 6:15 so the days are lengthening nicely. Soon the garden will start to require my attention.
Meanwhile, I try desperately to make as much headway on these quilts as I can. I did manage to get my work finished on the art nouveau quilt yesterday. All that remains is to sign the quilt and snip any loose threads that I can find.
Today I got back to work on the second log cabin quilt, the one I've named "Log Cabin for a Dreich Day." I cut out small log cabin shapes with chimneys and have bonded them to the quilt top in the middle of all but the very middle block. Next I must come up with my threadplay design and start doing the machine embroidery.
Don, poor dear, has come down with a stonking head cold. He sounds really awful and is quite congested. It doesn't keep him from going to the golf course but he came home today after only 9 holes. This afternoon he's at the St. Fillans Music Circle where, if his prediction came true, he should be sleeping through some lovely music right about now.
Last night's chorus rehearsal went quite well. We rehearse again with the soloists on Thursday night and then, with the orchestra and soloists on Sunday afternoon. The performance is Sunday night and that will be chorus finished until late next August.
