Here's my spot on the couch, right next to the flowers from Peter and Robbie and the fruit basket from Eleanor and Nisbet, and beneath the lap quilt made by my Bethesda church quilter friends as my going-away gift when we left the States. This is where I am taking it easy, recouperating, and catching up on newspapers, magazines, and books.
I had a good night and feel much more like myself today. With Don's help, I am getting a couple of loads of wash done (a requirement!) and even did the washing up of the morning dishes. I am still taking it easy but am happy to report that I am not needing the Paracetamol quite so often and when I do, I can get by with one rather than two tablets.
Our roofer came by last night to try to explain himself and promised to be here this morning to get back on the job. Of course we understand that with snow lying, it isn't easy to put on the roof tiles, but we asked him to please clear off the snow that keeps melting and dripping into the kitchen. So this morning, George and two helpers were here early and spent some time clearing snow off the scaffolding and trying to clear the area over the kitchen. I am pleased to report that the kitchen floor has remained dry. It was still too cold, however, for the roofers to shift much of the snow although the sun was shining brightly. They went away but with a promise to be back at 11 to resume work, if possible, but it could still be too slippy for them to work on icy scaffolding.
A delivery of lumber came this morning. The truck sat in front of the house for half an hour waiting before the joiners showed up to help unload. We haven't seen the joiners at all since then. It is a bitterly cold day and the sun isn't as bright as it was at 8 a.m. so perhaps it is simply too horrific out there to do any outside work.
Don just came back from running errands, among other things, delivering a thank-you note and a bottle of whisky to Neill Aitken for ferrying us to Dundee in the snow on Sunday. He said the roads aren't bad although there is snow everywhere. The problem is that there is very little melting going on because of the extreme cold and the lack of bright sun. This means there could be little or no progress made around here today.
I have been given the go-ahead to wash my hair on Saturday. That will be a major treat as it feels really awful. I have an appointment to get my stitches removed at our medical centre on Monday afternoon. Slowly but surely, I will get back to normal. Our appointment is already set for the 27th to return to Ninewells for the biopsy results. We are feeling very positive.
This afternoon I will begin answering the latest e-mails. For now, though, I'm heading back to the couch to read through my latest QuiltingArts Magazine. If I can't do any quilting, I can at least read about it and look at the gorgeous photos.
