This is my first full day home. It feels so good to be here but I am having to take it very easy. I had a good night's sleep in my own bed--one of life's great joys--even though I woke up and needed more Paracetamol (Tylenol) about every four hours. Added up, I guess I slept close to 10 hours which, I'm sure, was good for me.
The roofer was due over here first thing to get whatever lingering snow off the roof that he could. To our knowledge, he never made it. (We're still collecting water in bowls on the kitchen floor. Don has told Bill, our contractor, that we want a new roofer.) The joiners were here bright and early. Our new doors and windows were being delivered today but there was so much snow lying that the joiners' first task was to shovel a path for the delivery man. They got the two utility room windows put in as well as our new back door, but nothing is sealed in yet. Still, it's a start. And our lovely new blue front door was delivered. It is still propped against the wall in the new utility room space but will probably get installed tomorrow. We're also getting replacement windows for the rest of the house. These were part of today's delivery and the joiners want to put some of them in tomorrow as well. This means having to pack up parts of some rooms first, so I'm not sure how much we can manage. We'll see.
We've had a couple of phone calls and a couple of deliveries today--a bouquet of flowers from Robbie and Peter Innes and a fruit basket from Eleanor and Nisbett Cunningham. I had thought I'd go to coffee this morning but there was no way. As it is, just the little bit I tried to do this morning was a bit too much for my first day home, so I had to return to bed and take it easy for the rest of the day. Don made us a pot of the most wonderful cream of mushroom soup today (from scratch). He's taking good care of me.
There is no photo with this blog because even though Donald did take a photo of me "for posterity" it would not be your ideal "Before Plastic Surgery/After Plastic Surgery" comparison! Suffice it to say I look like I've been in an auto accident and hit the windshield. Only neater, of course.
Thank you all for your many notes, cards, e-mails. I will soon be up to responding more fully and personally.
