Here you see today's lunch, Dill Shrimp Salad with Herb Dressing. Brekky was an omelet made with 2 eggs, grated low-fat cheese, fresh asparagus and fresh mushrooms. Dinner will be roasted marinated pork tenderloin with fresh veggies and a salad. And there are specified snacks in between as well as desserts. I began Phase I again on Monday morning and when I weighed yesterday morning (I weigh only twice a week--Tuesdays and Saturdays) I had already lost the 2 lbs I put on over the festive season. I'm hoping that by Saturday I will have lost the 2 lbs I have chased up and down since last September. I can honestly say I feel great, energetic and not the least deprived--except perhaps when I look at the box that has the remaining Belgian truffles, which I may not touch.
We have had some dramatic weather so far this year. Snow last week followed by a bit of rain which melted only enough snow to make slushy spots which then froze. Then more snow (not a lot), then more rain and more freezing. Then yesterday afternoon we got sleet and then a sleet/snow mixture. This gave way to rain and severe winds, sometimes gusting to gale force. We are talking about the gusts mostly being in the 30 to 50 or 60 mph range with the occasional 90 or 100 mph gust. We were awakened at 6:30 this morning with the force of the wind hitting our bedroom wall and whistling through the window which was open the merest little bit. The satellite dish was rocking and rolling on its perch above the shower room and the wind chimes in the plum tree out back and the apple tree by the patio were clanging and slapping themselves silly. Miraculously nothing fell over or broke although our friend Nan this morning said their garden waste bin fell over and then got blown all over the back garden, spreading grass clippings and other debris from one side to the other. She and Hamish were out there before 7 trying to pick things up and secure the bin which, in the wind, wasn't easy. We've had the occasional outbreak of sun when the wind dies down but then a cloud comes along and the wind and rain starts up again.
The last two of the scheduled New Year drinks parties are behind us. We had a lovely time at both. It's rather nice, though, to have all the celebrations over and to get back to our normal routines. Writers' Group resumed this past Monday morning and chorus resumed that evening. Yesterday morning I went back to Pilates and in the afternoon Don went off to the St. Fillans Music Circle (which finished an hour early due to that sleety/rain). This morning Don had the first meeting of Probus in the new year and Nan, Robbie, and I met for the weekly altos' coffee at the Royal (Liz is off to sunny Spain for 2 weeks).
Poor Don hasn't been able to play golf for over a week. He did go to the driving range in Crieff yesterday but said his swings were inconsistent. That's hardly surprising given how little chance he's had to keep up with his game. Today's forecast calls for sleet, although we haven't seen it yet, just rain. And tomorrow's forecast calls for more sleet, so it isn't looking good for Don's being able to get out to one of the golf courses. Forecasts aren't always accurate, however, so we shall hope that a window of opportunity comes his way soon.
