We are back to the more or less usual routine. Yesterday I had an appointment at the Dermatology Clinic of Perth Royal Infirmary just for a routine checkup with the doctor as a follow-up to my surgery. Don and Gordon were playing golf so I drove myself. Unfortunately, they weren't able to play because both golf courses they tried (Comrie and St. Fillans) were closed. It rained a lot on Wednesday night and yesterday our weather was amazingly windy. Just not good conditions for playing golf.
In fact, there was extreme flooding north of Inverness. The film footage on the telly was quite something to see. The problem was an unusually heavy rainfall in a short period of time and the local drainage systems simply couldn't cope. More rain is predicted through Sunday so that area could face even more extreme conditions before they get a break.
We had quite heavy winds around here but not much rain during the day yesterday. Driving home from Perth, I could feel the car being buffeted by the wind. Leaves and nuts from the trees were blowing everywhere. When I got home, our wind chimes were blanging together like mad. Unfortunately for the autumn display, there hasn't been a frost yet this year. That's usually what helps bring out the bright colours. It looks as though most of the leaves have been blown off the trees in this area before they've had a chance to get really bright. We'll be driving to Pitlochry on Sunday and so we'll see how the views compare with what I saw on Monday when I took the field trip with the So and Sews. At least the wind died down during the night and it's drizzly but fairly calm this morning.
Don is out playing golf and I'm about to get some laundry started. This afternoon 4 of us altos are getting together to do some note-bashing for the upcoming Crieff Choral concert in a month's time. I also need to see if I can finish the wall quilt I began at the workshop on Wednesday.
Last night we were invited to David and Juliet Sutcliffes' for supper. They had a nice fire going in their sitting room which felt wonderful on such a blustery day. We had a lovely time with them. On the way home, we stopped at St. Fillans Golf Course just to listen a few minutes to the rutting stags on the hill opposite. The night was full of stars and as there are no ambient lights nearby, we could see them all clearly. Between that and the eerie sounds of the bellowing stags, it was a nice way to end the evening before going home.
Today is our youngest grandchild's birthday. Cameron Reid Daniels is 1 year old today. I will try to post a photo from his birthday party held last Sunday. He looks like a little boy now that he's had his first haircut. Molly told us recently that he's been moved up to an older group in the nursery. I asked if he was now in with the toddlers. She said no, he is in an intermediate group they call the "waddlers."
