The Kitchen

Here is a photo of the kitchen's "good side." You can see that the walls still must be adorned. We will be papering in a very small plaid, sort of rusty red over cream that sounds a lot more garish than we think (and hope) it will turn out. Once that has happened, the windows can get their trim painted and then the protective covering on the window frames can be removed. Right now the walls have been patched and sanded for paint or paper. Behind the sink and cooktop we will have clear Perspex (Plexiglass) put on and then caulked with a clear acrylic instead of having any tile to deal with.

Starting at the far end, beneath the counter, are the dryer, the pedal bin, an old cupboard, and the dishwasher. The new worktops are a bluey jade. The new sink is made of tiny granite chips embedded in a polymer. Very hard but fairly easy to keep clean (so far!). The new cooktop is efficient, well laid-out, and a significant improvement over the old one. The range hood has had its problem area cropped out, where the aluminium covering doesn't actually cover all of the ducting material. (Watch this space, literally.) Meanwhile, we are being careful not to cook anything on the cooktop that is very odiferous.

There were no workmen yesterday due to it's being a Monday Bank Holiday. No workmen today because they're waiting for some supplies to arrive (or so we've been told). Don spoke strongly to the contractor this morning. We have guests coming to stay at the end of the month. We aren't exactly happy campers. Don has gone to play golf as consolation. I'm going to Pilates as expiation.
