We are back in Scotland safe and sound but not quite back in our own house. Great progress was made on the renovations while we were away but we won't be able to move back home until the weekend. Even then we will be sharing the house with workmen during the day on weekdays for quite some time.
As it is, we're able to stay at the home of friends who are away in Italy for the week. It is nice to have a place of peace and calm (as well as wholeness) to retreat to, but this is the third week that we're virtually living out of suitcases and we are anxious to be relieved of our nomadic ways.
The greatest challenge where we are now is learning to use the Aga range. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, here's what it looks like: http://www.universal-akb.com/387agatwoovg.html . As for what it cooks like, that takes some getting used to, but so far, so good (if you don't mind putting the roast chicken back in 3 times before it was finally done).
We had a wonderful fortnight in the States and will tell you more about it another time. We were happy to see friends and relatives and to experience spring in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.
I'll write more as I get other chances to use the computer (which we can't manage to get hooked up to the Internet where we are staying). For now, let me just say we are happy to be back home in Scotland and are excited about the progress on our renovations. The photo above shows the part of the sitting room extension where we've added French doors to a verandah that leads to the bricked-in terrace.

Welcome home... sorta. Hopefully you'll be in your OWN PLACE again soon - and using your own oven!
