Hydrangeas for Helen

Here it is at last, the quilt I made for Helen Rae for her birthday. It is a lovely field of hydrangeas. The colours are really slightly different in person than they appear in the photos. The red-orange inner border is actually more salmon than coral and the flowers that appear to be blue in the photo are actually more lavender-blue.

Anyway, you get the idea. It was made with fairly high-loft poly wadding (batting) and so the resulting quilt feels luxuriously floaty. Perfect for an afternoon nap.

After being in the house all day yesterday, we were both ready to get out today. As there still is no golf being played because of the snow lying everywhere, Don's great opportunity for an outing was to drive Trish and me to Aquafit in Crieff and do the grocery shopping while we were flinging ourselves about in the water. (We got quite a workout today!) The timing worked out well as Don only had to wait for us about 10 minutes when he came back to get us.

Tonight we are taking Helen and Gordon with us to Perth for the Friends of Cognac "Bring a Friend" night. I understand there's to be a chocolate tasting as well. Well as long as it's dark chocolate, I should be okay. It was just a year ago that we went along as Norma Nairn's guests and joined the organization. It has been a terrific year of meeting many friendly and interesting people and having the added bonus of our trip with the group to Cognac last October. We attended several other social events locally and have had a great time. (These folks know how to party!) We look forward to what our second year will bring. We don't know if Helen and Gordon will decide to join but if they do, there will be two men in the group named Gordon Rae.

Tomorrow night we return to Perth. We'll do a bit of shopping, have dinner at our favorite French bistro, and go to a Celtic music concert at the Perth Concert Hall. The group is Wolfstone who perform Scottish folk rock with a real flair. Some of you may have seen them at events or concerts. Our daughter Molly saw them in Albany a few years ago and was quite impressed. They're not for everybody (they can be quite loud) but we are fortunate to have eclectic taste (and ear plugs!). Actually, this will be our first opportunity to see them live so we'll let you know how they were.
